Digital Imaging Center and Laboratory

The Digitization Imaging Center and Laboratory is currently integrated with the university herbarium. The 750 square foot facility contains several digitization stations and a collection manager’s workstation. The first digitization station available includes a Compaq Evo computer with a large format Epson GT-15000 flatbed scanner. A second digitization station is available for digitally duplicating 35 mm slides, this uses a Dell Optiplex workstation computer with a professional Nikon Super COOLSCAN 5000 ED slide scanner (4000 dpi-true optical resolution) and a Nikon SF-210 slide feeder. The slide feeder provides high throughput of up to 50 mounted slides at a time.

All computers in the lab are locally networked to one another, as well as a HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP printer and to a DELL PowerEdge 1900 server. Captured raw archive quality TIFF images can be immediately stored, preserved and backed-up onto both an internal tape drive and a 1 TB Lacie external hard drive. A photographic copy and light stand is available for capturing digital photography.
